Getting ready for another long hike.

Here we go again !!!!!

After a year or so working and playing around the barn we've decided to get a break and go for a long hike 🌄, again!

Last improvement: clay coating above the old wall

But first a little update for those that have been out of the loop lately.
We've been safe and never had to deal with the infamous COVID19 🔥. Let's keep it this way.
Jeremy is striving at the restaurant where he's working. Yes you read it right: striving. It took a loooong time but it finally happened: the owner / chef even congratulated Jeremy! Everybody is proud of the path he is following now. The war isn't over but the first battle is won: he's training to become a chef and he's pretty good at it 👌.
As for Joey and Lola, our big kids, well, they're doing well in Connecticut! We're living a bit far from each other but we use video calls like in Star Trek and hope to go see them soon. Especially since Lola is going to get married in Fall and Joey lives now with Sarah whom we haven't met yet...

Muriel & horses during a 2 day trip to take them to mountain pastures

Muriel has been mostly riding horses lately. Taking them through dirt paths, forest roads, and to the mountains. Oh! And she's been painting also besides being my special worker / assistant. 👍 😍

Belaying the old stairs during its disassembly

Joao, well, always building something or preparing the next outing !
The 2nd floor of the barn is now officially finished and we've started working on the 1st floor.

6 day backpacking trip in May.

Now, about our long hike:
The HRP (Haute Route Pyrénéenne) is a trail that crosses the Pyrenees from the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea. It follows a higher profile than the 2 other better known trails that also cross the Pyrenees (GR10 in France and GR11 in Spain). Here's a map.
We are planning on spending 2 months to complete it. There are plenty of mountain refuges along the way but we're still carrying our own tent, mattresses, food, and gear to be self reliant.
From our experience on the Pacific Crest Trail it looks like the HRP is going to be much steeper: there are no graded paths and sometimes no paths at all, l'aventure quoi!

Rising above the clouds in the Maupas area past May

Departure July 10th, rain or shine from the beach of Hendaye heading East !

We'll try to keep this blog updated from the trail. So if you want to follow us simply subscribe to the blog ! Stay tuned !
